Mona Haydar- American-Syrian rapper and activist

Mona Haydar, as the title says, is a rapper and activist. She is Syrian who lives in America. She was raised in Flint, Michigan, where she also graduated from the University. Then she moved to Damascus to study Arabic and Islamic spirituality.

Mona is also a poet. She started to write very early. After some time, her poetry was used as texts for her songs. Her first track- "Hijabi"- reached millions of views. Song talks about racism and how islamic people are treated. "What that hair look like? Bet that hair look nice. Don’t that make you sweat? Don’t that feel too tight?" This is how the song begins. These are the most asked questions about hijab, a traditional veil worn by most of the muslim women. "All around the world love women every shading. Be so liberated" These lyrics mean that we should all respect women and all people, without looking what they ate and what they believe in. In my opinion, this song has a very strong message and we all should carefully listen to it, to understand what Mona is talking about.

Her second and most current song- "Dog"- talks about violence against women.

That's all for now! Hope you enjoyed reading this post!
